2000

Lisa McClain JD has been appointed to the Committee on Environmental Issues in Transportation Law, a standing committee of the Transportation Research Board of the National Academies.

Michael Newhouse JD has opened the Newhouse Seroussi law firm in Los Angeles.

Carrie Richter JD has been appointed to the American Planning Association’s amicus committee. Richter is acting as deputy city attorney for Oregon City, contributes to a monthly column in the Daily Journal of Commerce, frequently lectures on Oregon’s land use procedures and law, and is an associate with Garvey Schubert Barer’s land use practice group in Portland.

Trung Tu JD, a partner with McEwen Gisvold, has been named a 2009 Best Lawyer Under 40 by the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association. In 2008, Tu received the Oregon State Bar President’s Affirmative Action Award and was the inaugural recipient of the law school’s Rising Star Award. Portland Business Journal named Tu one of its Forty Under 40 for 2007.

Arts & Sciences Reunion June 23−26, 2011

Richard Ashe JD has been named by Missouri & Kansas Super Lawyers & Rising Stars as one of the top attorneys in Missouri for 2009. Ashe is an associate with Carnahan Evans Cantwell & Brown in Springfield, Missouri.

Sean Riddell JD leads the Oregon Department of Justice’s Criminal Justice Division.

James Tucker BA is enrolled in the MD/PhD program at the University of Utah.

2002

Melissa Golicz BA is living in Seattle, “raising my 18- month-old son with baby number two on the way. Planning for the future. Getting ready to go back to work so that my husband can go back to school. Professional focus is corporate strategy … making good things work even better.”

Yumi Minagawa O’Neil JD is on the board of directors of the Multnomah Bar Association Young Lawyers Section. O’Neil is an education and training analyst at Multnomah County Circuit Court.

Tanya Sanerib JD has joined the nonprofit Crag Law Center in Portland as a staff attorney.

Elizabeth Teague JD has joined the staff of the Alliance for the Great Lakes in Chicago.

2003

Christy Brown BA fulfilled a dream by appearing on Jeopardy! on February 16. She placed third, winning $1,000 as a consolation prize, and had a fantastic time on the show!

Rachel Levy JD and her husband, Mack Baily, performed “Friend for Life,” a song from their new album, White, at the 12th annual Tribute to John Denver at the Aspen, Colorado, Wheeler Opera House. The concert was a benefit for the Aspen Camp of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing and the Windstar Foundation.

Kacy Wiggum BA has joined the Kaye Scholer law firm in New York City.

2004

Aaron Clark BA left Credit Suisse in June 2009 in order to start a Chicago office for Lazard Capital Markets. He is an M.BA candidate in the Booth School of Business at the University of Chicago.

Jaymie Cox BA is enrolled in a dual master’s degree program (M.S.S.) in both sport management and sport coaching through the U.S. Sports Academy. The high school varsity volleyball team she coaches at Three Rivers Christian School, in Kelso, Washington, had a successful season, winning the WIAA District IV 1B Championship, thus earning a second straight state bid.

Patrick Flanagan JD heads the Department of Justice’s new Environmental Crimes Unit, which was created by the Oregon legislature in 2009. Flanagan is a former Clackamas County prosecutor and federal law enforcement officer with the U.S. National Park Service.

Kimberly Griffith JD has been elected director of the Multnomah Bar Association Young Lawyers Section. She is a commercial litigator with Cosgrave Vergeer Kester.

Amanda Johnson BA, an assistant teacher at Fieldston Lower School in Riverdale, Bronx, New York, spent two weeks in April teaching from Nova Scotia, Canada. On a fellowship from the foundation HSBC in the Community, Johnson connected “live from the field” to her classroom, teaching her thirdgraders about mammals of Nova Scotia. It was an opportunity, she said, to “show our students how scientists study animals in the field to gather the information that the children are reading about in books.” The HSBC fellowship includes a $250 grant for Johnson to implement a community conservation project to further engage students in their classroom and their community.

Stacy Skiftenes BA joined the Peace Corps after graduation and served two years as a rural public health volunteer in Ecuador. Upon return to the States, she married fellow volunteer Brian Fahey in October 2006. She graduated from the University of Colorado College of Nursing in December 2009 and is now a registered nurse at the University of Colorado Hospital. She, her husband, and their dog Teddy live in Denver.

Alison Strachan BA is working in Yokohama and is married to a man she met while at Kansai Gaidai in 2003. They live next to a train station that is a popular setting for fashion shoots and horror movies.

Diana Wiener Rosengard BA ’04, JD ’09 earned her law degree from Lewis & Clark Law School in May 2009. She lives in Portland and is working on independent projects and freelance writing.

2005

Jennifer Durham JD has been elected secretary of the Multnomah Bar Association Young Lawyers Section. Durham is a trial lawyer at Hiefield Foster & Glascock.

Matthew Goldberg JD was appointed to the executive committee of the Oregon State Bar’s Debtor-Creditor Section for a two-year term that began in January.

Andrea Malone JD was elected secretary of the Deschutes County Bar Association. Malone is a staff attorney at the Central Oregon Regional Legal Aid Office.

2006

Chloe Castro BA is working toward a master’s degree in historic preservation at the Savannah College of Art and Design.

Elisa Dozono JD has been elected representative to the new Oregon Asian Pacific American Bar Association. She is an associate with Miller Nash in Portland.

Philip Haberthur JD has been named the 2009 recipient of the General George C. Marshall Public Leadership Award. The award honors the legacy of Vancouver resident and Nobel Peace Prize–winner General George C. Marshall, who steered the reconstruction of Europe and Pacific nations after World War II. Haberthur is a Battle Ground, Washington, city council member and an attorney with Schwabe, Williamson & Wyatt’s Vancouver office.

Eric McQuilkin JD received the New Lawyers Division’s Public Service Award at the Oregon State Bar’s annual awards dinner in December 2009.

Martha Davey Rice JD has been hired as a city attorney for Crescent City, California. Rice is associated with the Robert N. Black law firm and she has served as the Crescent City deputy city attorney.

Rai Sue Sussman JD was the civilian attorney for U.S. Army cook Alexis Hutchinson in a 2009 case that drew national media attention. Hutchinson had requested her November deployment to Afghanistan be delayed because she was unable to find child care for her infant son; the Army had refused her request. Hutchinson missed her deployment flight and was arrested the next day, but the Army ultimately granted her an administrative discharge. The case was a continuation of work Sussman began during law school as a member of the Lewis & Clark chapter of the National Lawyers Guild and a cofounder of the Lewis & Clark Military Counseling Project. Sussman is in private practice in San Francisco.

Ashley Todd BA received a master of arts in English from the University of Oregon in June. She plans to spend the next year traveling, writing, and working on applications to PhD programs.

2007

Jessica Asai JD has been elected to the board of the recently formed Oregon Asian Pacific American Bar Association.

Jennifer Bragar JD has joined Garvey Schubert Barer’s Portland office as an associate, working with the land use and government practice groups.

Joseph Franco JD has joined the Portland firm of Markowitz, Herbold, Glade & Mehlhaf as an associate focusing on complex commercial litigation. Franco previously was a litigator at a trial litigation firm in Portland.

Connie Kong JD has been elected to the board of the recently formed Oregon Asian Pacific American Bar Association.

Bernadette Dieker Nunley JD is director of the Multnomah Bar Association Young Lawyers Section. Nunley works in the office of the Multnomah County Attorney.

2008

Brook Brisson JD has accepted a position in Fairbanks, Alaska, as clean water and mining director at the Northern Alaska Environmental Center.

Anthony Kuchulis JD has joined the Redmond office of Hoffman, Hart & Wagner as an associate.

David Johnston Norse BA traveled in Europe the summer after graduation, then worked at a video store in Sellwood, and then spent four months living in the Western Isles of Scotland. There he volunteered with the Iona Community, working with marginalized youth from around the United Kingdom. Last fall he began working toward his master of divinity degree, focusing on pastoral care, at Princeton Theological Seminary. This summer he is volunteering for 10 weeks in Japan with the Asia Rural Institute, an international training program for grassroots rural leaders in sustainable agriculture, community development, and leadership.

Samuel Stigler BA says, “I just got my first full-time job! Starting in July I’ll be working in technology support for a local elementary school.”

2009

Kelley Amburgey JD has joined the Oregon Law Center in Ontario as a staff attorney.

Tamara Arthur JD is of counsel with Keating Jones Hughes in Portland. Arthur brings medical expertise to the law firm.

Leslie Edenhofer JD joined Hoffman Hart & Wagner as an associate in the Portland office.

Jennifer Hutzel BA is applying to graduate schools in the museum studies field and is working as an intern at the nonprofit organization Icicle Arts, in Leavenworth, Washington.

Abby Miller JD has joined Hoffman Hart & Wagner as an associate in the Portland office. Miller was previously a law clerk at the firm.

John Persel JD has joined the Biodiversity Conservation Alliance, based in Laramie, Wyoming. Persel is the group’s conservation law director, analyzing forest service and BLM projects that affect atrisk species.

R. Bryce Sinner JD has joined the law firm of Duggan Schlotfeldt & Welch in Vancouver, Washington, as an associate.
