Ten students from the Lewis & Clark Graduate School of Education and Counseling traveled to Mumbai, India in December 2007 as part of their coursework in the Marriage, Couple and Family Therapy and Community Counseling programs. -
The sun shone brightly on 2008's incoming class of graduate students as they gathered in groups on the South Campus lawn for Convocation, which kicks off the academic year and the Core Program. -
For the first time in 10 years, the Fir Acres Theatre will be filled with the melodies of a main stage musical. Opening Nov. 6, 2008, “Urinetown, the Musical,” is major collaboration between the theatre and music departments. -
In March, senior Brendan Larsen, senior Alec Kerins, and Assistant Professor of Biology Greta Binford spent their spring break bringing lab research and global engagement together in Puerto Plata, a region in the Dominican Republic.

L&C students present at the American Chemical Society conference in New Orleans. -
Students discuss their research projects during a series of brown-bag talks on Tuesdays in June and July. Each presentation is 15 minutes; there are generally 3-4 talks per session. For more information about projects see project descriptions.

For the past three months, 11 teams of student and alumni entrepreneurs have been busy developing business plans as part of Lewis & Clark’s first venture competition. At Pitch Day, five teams were selected to receive continued mentoring and further seed funding to support their ventures during the summer. -
Taylor Finch ’13 and Sofia Alicastro ’14 earned spots in the super-selective business internship program, which accepts only 25 students. -
Portland Center Stage’s (PCS) production of Bruce Norris’ Clybourne Park had help from a Lewis & Clark expert—Michael Olich, associate professor of theatre. -

Evan Damon ’13 and Julian Dale B.A. ’12 are working alongside Professor of Computer Science Jens Mache to investigate computer security and brainstorm new methods for teaching the subject to undergraduate students. -
Two undergraduate students, Katherine Garvey ’13 and Alli Rotunno ’14, are working alongside Assistant Professor of Psychology Todd Watson to discover how different personality and behavior traits relate to diet and weight. -
Lewis & Clark theatre students easily find their niche in Portland’s art scene. -
Emily Fagan ’14 and Alaina Green ’13 are working alongside Assistant Professor of Physics Shannon O’Leary to discover how laser light interactions are affected by magnetic fields. -
Kyla Hamling ’14, Ian Lake ’13, Derek Warner-Reyes ’15, and Leah Weston ’13 are working alongside Assistant Professor of Biology Tamily Weissman-Unni to investigate the neural circuitry of the zebrafish to better understand the brain. -
Matthew Sims ’13 and Maya Bendifallah ’13 are working alongside Associate Professor of Chemistry Nikolaus Loening to discover the effects of spider venom on crickets. -
A team of alumni and faculty from Lewis & Clark will present their research at the annual meeting of the Ecological Society of America in August. -
Greg Hermann, biochemistry program chair and assistant professor of biology, received an award for his exceptional mentorship in biology. The Council on Undergraduate Research(CUR) recently awarded him the 2012 Outstanding Mentor Award in Biology. -
For the second consecutive year, the Lewis & Clark Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) made a significant monetary donation to the Special Olympics of Multnomah County in honor of its continued partnership with the organization. -
This summer, three undergraduate students and two alumni will research alongside Associate Professor of Biology Greta Binford in the Dominican Republic. -
Improving the quality of science education is a top national priority, as seen in President Obama’s commitment to prepare 100,000 new science, technology, engineering, and math teachers in the next decade. Now Lewis & Clark will be an integral part of this challenge, with the receipt of a $1 million grant to improve the quality of K-12 science education in the Pacific Northwest and beyond. -
