POLICY CHANGE: Classes and Other Activities May Continue Through Inclement Weather

Dear Lewis & Clark Community,

As fall comes to a close, our attention turns to winter, and with it, winter weather. We are ready for winter storms just as we have been in past years, but this year presents new challenges and also new capabilities.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the College has an enhanced ability to provide classes and conduct business remotely. Most classes are already hybrid, hy-flex, or otherwise capable of remote delivery, and many employees are able to work effectively from home. While such conditions persist, it may be feasible in most inclement weather circumstances to move to remote learning and working rather than fully closing the College.

At the same time, more extreme winter weather may necessitate campus closures similar to past “snow days.” So, as with so much this year, we must remain flexible and adaptable. Please review the 2020-2021 addendum to the College’s closure policy for the specifics on how we plan on finding that balance. We will continue to provide updates regarding inclement weather and campus operations via the emergency notification system, the website, and the SNOW line.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

Andrea Dooley, Vice President for Operations and Chief Financial Officer
