Hola! I’m Debbie. I come from a medium-sized country in South Central Africa, Zambia and I attended UWC-USA in the beautiful Montezuma, New Mexico. I graduated high school back home and only heard about UWC from a mutual friend on Facebook. I was finishing my gap year and thought, why not give this a try…I mean, who knows what could happen? I applied to UWC because I thought it was a pre-college A-Levels course, but oops, I was in High school again! Lol. I mean, not everyone gets to redo high school once in their lifetime.
The thing I enjoyed most about my UWC experience was the community of care and respect that existed naturally. It prompted me to explore different parts of my personality that I didn’t know existed, discover talents that were waiting to be discovered and build the most meaningful relationships with people that will last a lifetime. This experience became a deciding factor in considering what colleges I would apply to. During a school summer program, I met a UWC-USA alum who is now a recent graduate of Lewis and Clark who told me about his experiences there, the amazing scenery around the school, the student led dance programs, study abroad opportunities and the exceptional financial support that L&C affords its students and encouraged me to apply which I’m glad I did. Some of my academic interests include English, Dance, Biology and History.
I’m currently undecided about my major so I’m looking forward to establishing my interests soon. My hobbies include dancing, bike riding, talking walks and travel. The first country I travelled to outside of Zambia was the US so I hope to do more traveling to other countries soon! I’m also interested in joining or forming my own band one day. One interesting thing that I would like people to know about me is I spent 5 years in a catholic boarding school before UWC. One thing I’m looking forward to at Lewis and Clark is the chance to explore Portland and the West coast at large!
