L&C’s Rena Ratte Award

Paige Underwood BA ’22, a political science and mathematics double major, received this spring’s Rena Ratte Award, the undergraduate college’s highest honor. Underwood exemplifies many of the college’s highest ideals, including exceptional scholarship, an outstanding work ethic, and a remarkable range of pursuits, including performing with Oregon Ballet Theatre’s pre-professional company, OBT2. Underwood’s experiences, both inside and outside the classroom, have shaped her decision to pursue a law career. After being admitted to nine of the top law schools in the country, including Stanford, Harvard, the University of Chicago, and Columbia, she chose to attend Yale Law School this fall.

Goldwater Scholar

Drew Blauth BA ’23 is the recipient of a 2022 Barry Goldwater Scholarship, one of the nation’s most prestigious scholarships for undergraduates who show exceptional promise as researchers in the natural sciences, mathematics, and engineering. Blauth is the 21st Lewis & Clark student to receive the award since 2006. Blauth, a chemistry and mathematics double major from Redlands, California, is still pondering his career options but says his overall goal is to earn a PhD in computational chemistry. His plan is to conduct atmospheric and environmental chemical research by using computational modeling and data processing.

Four Fulbright Winners

The Fulbright Program, sponsored by the U.S. Department of State, fosters mutual understanding among nations through educational and cultural exchanges. Lewis & Clark is one of the top producers of Fulbright award winners in the country, demonstrating a sustained commitment to international education and engagement.
