Steph Schares MEd ’10, a teacher at Ames (Iowa) Middle School, was named Iowa Safe Schools’ Educator of the Year. She spoke to the Ames Tribune about the struggle of supporting LGBTQ+ students in a state with book and instruction restrictions related to LGBTQ+ issues.
