President Glassner selected to national positions in higher education

February 05, 2015

President Barry Glassner has been elected as a national delegate to the board of directors of the National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities. President Glassner’s position gives Lewis & Clark a greater voice in setting national policy and legislative priorities for private higher education for the next three years.

“I am grateful to NAICU’s members for this honor, and see it as further evidence of Lewis & Clark’s growing recognition as a national leader,” said President Glassner. “I am proud to carry forward the innovative thinking and great work of everyone at our college, especially during this time of unfolding opportunities for private higher education.”

President Glassner is one of only four new national delegates. Eight presidents will hold regional seats. His three-year term began February 4, 2015.

“The experience and leadership of Barry Glassner and the other new NAICU board members will be critical in the years ahead as the association and our members navigate this time of change and challenge for American higher education,” said NAICU President David L. Warren, PhD

With more than 1,000 member institutions and associations, NAICU serves as the unified national voice of independent higher education. NAICU members enroll nine out of every ten students attending private, nonprofit institutions, including traditional liberal arts colleges, major research universities, historically black colleges, professional and graduate schools, and others.

Additionally, President Glassner was invited to join the Higher Education Working Group on Global Issues, which is a joint initiative of the Council on Foreign Relations and the Forum for the Future of Higher Education. The group consists primarily of college and university presidents and chancellors. At the end of January, President Glassner participated in the group’s meeting in New York City.
