Jeff Cruttenden BA ’12 was recently named one of Forbes Magazine’s “30 Under 30” in finance.

Cruttenden, who is also featured in the cover story of the latest issue of Lewis & Clark’s Chronicle magazine, is the cofounder of Acorns, an app that reinvents investing by rounding up debit and credit card purchases and automatically investing the spare change into a diversified portfolio.

Jeff’s interest in finance began when he was 11, and his father introduced him to the stock pages of the local newspaper. Cruttenden credits his experiences in Lewis & Clark’s math department with giving him the tools to create the app, which he co-founded with a friend in 2012 and which has since received significant national attention.

His goal, like the change his app invests, is small but significant: to lower the entrance barrier to investing and to encourage young people to become “invested in their financial future.”
