One L&C Champion - Kerry Rowand

As the Executive Assistant to the Dean of the Law School, Kerry Rowand is used to juggling many projects while supporting the ever-changing needs of students, staff and faculty.

As the Executive Assistant to the Dean of the Law School, Kerry Rowand is used to juggling many projects while supporting the ever-changing needs of students, staff and faculty. While this past year was marked by change and brought many challenges, Kerry has been a consistent presence helping the Law School community come together and grow during this time. We thank Kerry for her commitment to building a better, more inclusive Lewis & Clark and are recognizing her as a One L&C Champion for the month of June.

Kerry excels in her role. Law School Dean Jennifer Johnson commented that “Kerry is a fabulous executive assistant who provides invaluable service not only to me but to the entire law school community. She is most deserving of this recognition!” During this past academic year of Covid-19 restrictions, Kerry has been the glue holding the law school together. She played a key role in the hiring of new academic positions, and was instrumental in reaching out to minority and affinity list-servs to broaden the search pool. She is always a pleasure to work with and if you bring a problem to her attention, you know it is in good hands.

At the Law School, when you need help with an obscure question, or need support on a project, Kerry is always there to help. We asked her to share what inspires her, and how this past year’s challenges have affected her life and work:

“The challenges of the past year made me appreciate law school community members even more – all those who tirelessly advocate for vulnerable populations, animals, and the environment. If I can support their work in some small way, then I’m grateful. Law students inspired me with their creative ways to connect during the pandemic – I biked in the Public Interest Law Project’s Virtual 5K and planted seeds for the community garden, and I’m really looking forward to the return of bake sale fundraisers!”

Kerry plays an essential role in connecting everyone at the Law School, and her commitment to building a safe & equitable community on campus is just one of the many reasons she is a Champion.
