Diversity is a Strength

Dear students, staff, and faculty,

Today, the U.S. Supreme Court issued decisions on two cases related to higher education. The Court ruled that colleges and universities may not use race as a factor in their admissions processes, overturning decades of previous rulings.

In light of today’s decisions, I wanted to reaffirm our commitment to fostering and supporting a diverse and inclusive community. Whether at the College of Arts & Sciences, the Graduate School, or the Law School, LC students are encouraged to view the world through a variety of different lenses as part of their education. Interacting with people from all kinds of different backgrounds is an important aspect of students’ preparation to live, work, and lead in an increasingly diverse society. This fall we are excited to welcome the most ethnically diverse group of undergraduate students in LC’s history.

It will take some time to carefully review the Court’s decision and to fully understand its potential impacts at LC. We will remain in compliance with all federal laws and guidelines. We will also remain strongly committed to fostering an institutional culture that values diverse perspectives and a community where everyone belongs.

Sincerely,

Robin H. Holmes Sullivan, PhD
President
