Campus Living is looking for RAs!

Campus Living is looking for RAs!

Dear Faculty and Staff:

We hope this finds you all thriving as we approach Fall Break and with it an opportunity to reflect on how our good works have translated into engaging opportunities for the growth of our students.  Here, at Campus Living we are once again taking this time to begin to ramp up our efforts around fielding and recruiting applicants for our Resident Advisor (RA) selection process.  As Lewis & Clark faculty and staff, you are uniquely positioned to be able see the talents of those emerging student leaders who have crossed your path.  It is our hope that you will take this opportunity to reach out to them and encourage them to apply.

RAs are essential to the residential component of the Lewis & Clark experience.  They serve as leaders, counselors, community facilitators, and role models for the entire campus community.  RAs provide educational programming, low-level counseling, mediation for roommates and other relationships, policy education and enforcement, and referrals to other offices such as the counseling service or writing center.  Being an RA is also a great opportunity for our students to be in a paraprofessional position and to learn skills they can use after they leave the institution. The remuneration for the service these students render the institution is room and board.

Some characteristics of students who have been exceptional RAs include:

¨      High Integrity

¨      Leadership potential

¨      Empathy

¨      Ability to work well with others, particularly with those different from themselves

¨      Multicultural awareness/competence

¨      Open to learning

¨      Respect—commanding it and giving it

Please take the time to consider the leadership potential among those with whom you interact.  If you find a student who is interested you can direct them to the Campus Living homepage for more information on the RA application process.  If they are currently a Sophomore or Junior and not studying abroad during the 2013-14 academic year, they qualify for Early Action RA Selection and can attend our upcoming information session Wed., October 17th at 4:30 in JR Howard Hall, Rm. 122.
