New Administrative Leader in the Office of the VP of Student Life
June 21, 2019
It is a pleasure to announce that Jessica Sweeney MA ’17 has assumed the role of program director and executive assistant to the vice president in the Division of Student Life. In this role, Jessica will provide administrative support to the Vice President of Student Life and Dean of Students (VPSL), assist in coordinating the overall administrative functions of Student Life and VPSL office, assist with the Student Life divisional budget and event management, and supervise student employees for the VPSL Office. She will also work collaboratively with the various offices at the College to ensure that we collectively achieve our goals.
Jessica began working at Lewis & Clark in 2014 as the Music Department’s Administrative Specialist. Jessica’s professional background also includes work in the corporate and nonprofit sectors: She worked in planning and forecasting for Columbia Sportswear, and in marketing and public relations for the Friends of Tryon Creek State Park. She spent a number of years as a stay-at-home mom, caring for her two children, before coming to Lewis & Clark and finding her passion in higher education and supporting the student experience.
Jessica graduated with her MA from the Student Affairs Administration (SAA) program at Lewis & Clark’s Graduate School of Education and Counseling. Her graduate work focused on social justice, equity, and inclusion in higher education. She graduated from the University of Oregon with a BA in English. While in L&C’s SAA program, Jessica focused on the developmental needs of students, mediating differences between individuals and groups, and exploring culturally-inclusive communication strategies. She is also interested in increasing graduation and retention rates and is excited to utilize her background and education in the service of the Office of the Vice President of Student Life and Dean of Students at Lewis & Clark.
Please join me in welcoming Jessica to her new role. She has already made a huge difference in helping to strategically position the College to enhance the student experience at Lewis & Clark and support the leadership within the Division of Student Life.
