Get Started With the FAFSA

To apply for financial aid, the first thing all students—undergraduate, graduate, and law—must do is complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) each year. Our school code for the FAFSA is 003197.

You may have heard the news that the FAFSA is getting a major remodel this year! The goal is to make it simpler to complete, but it also means the FAFSA for the 2024-25 year won’t be available until late December 2023.

Pro Tip: you need an FSA ID to complete the FAFSA. Here’s a quick video tutorial to help with that process. You and anyone else (like a parent!) who will be contributing information to your FAFSA should create an FSA ID at least a couple of days before you file the FAFSA.

Important Financial Aid Timing

Update, 1/31/24

The government just announced that they will not release FAFSA data to schools until at least early March. Without that data, we cannot process need-based aid awards, so we’ve removed the priority filing dates this year. Please note:

  1. The date you file the FAFSA has no bearing on your award. 
  2. We will work with you to get through this year’s delayed, uncertain process. 
  • 97% 

    Ninety-seven percent of L&C undergraduates receive some form of financial assistance.

  • 99% 

    99 percent of fall 2021 incoming JD students at the Law School received scholarships or grants.

  • 71% 

    71 percent of degree-seeking students at the Graduate School of Education and Counseling receive financial aid.
