Financial Aid

for graduate students

October 2016 – February 2017

  • Students who wish to be considered for federal financial aid in 2017-18 should file the 2017-18 FAFSA using 2015 tax information (prior-prior tax year).
    • File online at FAFSA.gov as early as October 1, 2016.
    • Federal school code for Lewis & Clark: 003197.
    • Priority filing deadline: February 15, 2017.

March – June 2017

  • Incoming students
    • Financial aid awards will be released to admitted graduate students starting in mid-March and on a rolling basis thereafter. Incoming students who completed the FAFSA by February 15 should receive a financial aid award notification by early April.
    • Incoming students should submit any additional documentation that is required to finalize their financial aid award (e.g., verification documents) no later than April 10. Check My Documents on WebAdvisor to see if you have any items outstanding.
    • Admitted students who wish to attend Lewis & Clark must submit the required tuition deposit to the Office of Admissions by the deadline stated in their notice of admission.
  • Continuing students
    • Continuing students are notified if any additional documentation is required to prepare their financial aid award for 2017-18. Documentation should be submitted to the Office of Financial Aid as soon as possible but no later than April 10.
    • In early April financial aid awards will be released to continuing graduate students with complete financial aid applications who are registered for the Summer semester.
    • In late June financial aid awards will be released to continuing graduate students with complete financial aid applications who are not enrolled in Summer but who are registered for the Fall semester.
  • Both
    • Loan processing deadlines
      • April 24, 2017 if you will start the 2017-18 academic year in Summer Session 1. Refunds from financial aid will be available no earlier than the first day of classes in that session: May 8.
      • May 30, 2017 if you will start the 2017-18 academic year in Summer Session 2. Refunds from financial aid will be available no earlier than the first day of classes in that session: June 12.
      • June 29, 2017 if you will start the 2017-18 academic year in Summer Session 3. Refunds from financial aid will be available no earlier than the first day of classes in that session: July 17.

July 2017

August 2017

  • Make sure all steps necessary to secure financial aid are complete so that funding can be applied to your student account at the beginning of the semester. Fully processed loans will display as “pending financial aid” on My Account Statement on WebAdvisor.
  • The payment due date for Fall semester charges that will not be covered by financial aid is published by Student & Departmental Account Services. Typically, payment for the Fall is due in early August.
  • Familiarize yourself with Lewis & Clark’s policy on refunds and set your preferences in the Student Refund Portal. It is strongly recommended that you enroll in direct deposit to expedite access to refunds.

September 2017

  • The earliest date that Fall 2017 refunds from financial aid will be available is the first day of classes: September 5, 2017.

October 2017

  • The 2018-19 FAFSA will become available.
    • File your aid application using 2016 tax information (prior-prior tax year). It is strongly recommended that you use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool to transfer your income information.
    • File online at FAFSA.gov.
    • Federal school code for Lewis & Clark: 003197.
    • Priority filing deadline: February 15, 2018.

November 2017

  • Billing statements for Spring semester charges are sent to students in mid-November. Check My Account Statement on WebAdvisor for the most current account information.

December 2017

January 2018

  • The earliest date that Spring 2018 refunds from financial aid will be available for all graduate students is the first day of classes: January 8, 2018.

February 2018

  • 2018-19 FAFSA priority filing deadline: February 15, 2018.

* Note: Students may process loans throughout the academic year, but meeting the deadlines included in the timeline above will ensure that your loans disburse to your student account at the earliest possible date. Unborrowed loan eligibility expires at the end of the Spring semester.
