President Holmes-Sullivan and Student Life Staff Shine at International Conference
Lewis & Clark College will be well represented at the 2023 Association of College and University Housing Officers–International (ACUHO-I) Conference and Expo this month.
President Robin Holmes-Sullivan will lend her student life expertise as a session speaker. Her presentation will offer reflections on the challenges and opportunities for higher education, and specifically campus housing units, from her seat as a president–looking into the future during a time of continued disruption. Her session is designed to serve as an inspiring call to action about what campus housing professionals and leaders can do to effect change and elevate their departments.
will lead a workshop titled Foundational Supervisory Skills for New Professionals. This session covers topics such as how to frame and respond to inter-staff conflict, prepare for performance evaluation conversations, and create an intentional supervisory plan. Participants will reflect on their own experience with supervisors, practice and add tools to their toolkit, challenge their assumptions about the role of the supervisor in student affairs, and make a plan to start the upcoming academic year organized and ready to implement what they’ve learned.Assistant Director of Campus Living Theresa Brostowitz
will co-present an educational session titled More than 1’s and 0’s: Beyond Binary Gender and Occupancy Management. While many schools have moved towards offering opt-in mixed gender, gender neutral, or gender inclusive housing options, Lewis & Clark has made this type of all-gender housing the norm, with less than five percent of beds on campus being pre-designated as a single gender room/floor. This session will help attendees to see the opportunities, from application to assignment, to facilitate a more inclusive occupancy management approach that utilizes student self-reported gender identity and the gender identities of potential roommates.Assistant Dean for Campus Life Ben Meoz and Director of New Student Orientation and Campus Living Operations Franchesca Spann
