My name is Isa Pasalic and I come from a small but beautiful heart-shaped country in Southern Europe called Bosnia and Herzegovina. Its beautiful nature and people are contrasted by devastatingly corrupted politics and political structure. Which has in the end made me apply to UWC Mostar in order to set grounds for my dream to reform and help my country get out of the mud it is currently in.
UWC proved to be an amazing experience that has shaped me into the person I am today. At first, I was surprised by seeing so many different cultures crammed into this relatively small community of some 200 people. After the initial “shock” I became more and more acquainted with how things were at UWC after which I started exploring what I actually liked and enjoyed. Since I enjoyed art and poetry I joined poetry sessions, and in the end, I became a leader of one. Also, I wanted to help people and children and I started the Library CAS in which we helped little children learn English.
The very similarity between ideologies of UWC and Lewis and Clark has in the end made me apply to this college. At the time of my application, I didn’t know how friendly and helpful people of Lewis & Clark College actually were until I got accepted. I am interested mostly in humanities such as Psychology and History but at this point, I am still undecided. Overall, I am happy that I became part of this amazing community, and I hope that we together can make it worthwhile. I hope that my dreams will finally come true in this amazing institution and community. And I am quite certain that besides beautiful paysage, I will meet a lot of beautiful people.
