Friday, January 19, Campus Information

Temperatures have remained stubbornly low in greater Portland, and the National Weather Service has a Winter Weather Advisory in effect through 10 a.m. on Friday, January 19. Freezing rain continues to fall on campus, and many neighborhood roads and campus walkways are still quite icy.

Out of concerns for the ability of faculty, staff, and students to safely navigate to and on campus, operations on all three of our campuses will be curtailed tomorrow, January 19, 2024.

Additional Information for Students (Friday, January 19)

  • CAS classes are canceled. As per CAS policy, faculty may hold optional Zoom sessions with students. Students will hear directly from their professors if such sessions are offered.
  • Law and graduate classes will be conducted remotely, to the extent possible. Professors will be in touch with information and instructions.
  • Events, athletics practices and competitions, and all other planned on-campus activities are canceled for Friday, January 19. Please look at the Events Calendar for rescheduling information.
  • PGE has restored power to the graduate school, and Facilities is in the process of verifying operations and bringing the campus back online.
  • The Pio Express will run its normal routes and schedule unless otherwise noted in the app.
  • Bon Appétit plans for regular operations in Fields dining. Other dining locations will not be open today. Residential students will receive direct communication if there are changes to the schedule.

Additional Information for Faculty and Staff (Friday, January 19)

  • Nonessential personnel should not report to campus and should work remotely, to the extent possible. Essential personnel should report for work when it is safe to do so, unless otherwise instructed by their supervisor.
  • Employees with questions about expectations and schedules should contact their supervisor.

If you are on campus, continue to be extremely cautious as many walkways are icy and difficult to navigate. Do not walk or skate on frozen pools. Beware of ice that could be falling from trees and buildings. Avoid wooded areas as there is still risk of falling trees and branches.
