The International Student and Academic Success

(Marko Demkiv and Johann Maradiaga)

In this session students should give an honest assessment of their academic struggles and successes at Lewis & Clark. Basically, you want to do about 7 minutes on your own experiences—good and bad—as you learned how to study and succeed. In the past some students have related that they got a “D” on their first paper and they were shocked and they had to improve. They explained what happened and what they did to improve. Your advice is up to you, of course, but in the past students have mentioned the importance of talking to the professor regularly, SAAB tutors, spending more hours, getting a study buddy, etc. It is best to give your own experiences.

All students will have an accompanying handout in their packets. Feel free to read the advice on the handout and speak to some of those suggestions—if you want to.
