Financial Aid

for law students

January – February 2016

  • Students who wish to be considered for federal financial aid in 2016-17 should file the 2016-17 FAFSA using 2015 tax information (prior tax year).
    • File online at FAFSA.gov.
    • Federal school code for Lewis & Clark: 003197.
    • Priority filing deadline: February 15, 2016.

March – April 2016

  • Incoming students
    • Financial aid awards will be released to admitted law students starting in March and on a rolling basis thereafter. Incoming JD students who filed their FAFSA by February 15 should receive a financial aid award notification by early April.
    • Incoming students should submit any additional documentation that is required to finalize their financial aid award (e.g., verification documents) no later than April 15. Check My Documents on WebAdvisor to see if you have any items outstanding.
    • Incoming JD students who wish to attend Lewis & Clark must submit the required tuition deposit to the Office of Admissions by the deadline stated in their notice of admission.
  • Continuing students
    • Continuing students are notified if any additional documentation is required to prepare their financial aid award for 2016-17. Documentation should be submitted to the Office of Financial Aid as soon as possible but no later than May 15.
    • In late April financial aid awards will be released to continuing law students with complete financial aid applications who are registered for the Summer semester.

May 2016

  • Continuing students
    • Loan processing deadline for those students starting the 2016-17 academic year in Summer Session 1: May 16, 2016.
    • For students starting in Summer Session 1, refunds from financial aid will be available no earlier than the first day of classes in that session: May 31.
    • Continuing students who have secured a Federal Work-Study position for 2016-17 should submit their FWS Request Form and complete all required paperwork with Law Business Services well in advance of their anticipated start dates.

June 2016

  • Incoming students
    • Incoming JD students who will attend Lewis & Clark must submit their second tuition deposit. Check with the Office of Admissions for the exact deadline.
  • Continuing students
    • Loan processing deadline for students starting the 2016-17 academic year in Summer Session 2: June 20, 2016.
    • For students starting in Summer Session 2, refunds from financial aid will be available no earlier than the first day of classes in that session: July 6.
  • Both

July 2016

  • Incoming students
    • Loan processing deadline for all incoming law students: July 1, 2016.

      • Students who wish to borrow a private educational loan should complete an application directly with their lender of choice by July 1.
  • Continuing students
    • In early July financial aid awards will be released to continuing law students with complete financial aid applications who are registered for the Fall semester.
    • The loan processing deadline for these students is one week after the release of their award letter.
  • Both
    • Billing statements for Fall semester will be sent to students in mid-July. Check My Account Statement on WebAdvisor for the most current account information.

August 2016

  • Incoming students
    • Familiarize yourself with Lewis & Clark’s policy on refunds and set your preferences in the Student Refund Portal. It is strongly recommended that you enroll in direct deposit to expedite access to refunds.
  • Both
    • Make sure all steps necessary to secure financial aid are complete so that funding can be applied to your student account at the beginning of the semester. Fully processed loans will display as “pending financial aid” on My Account Statement on WebAdvisor.
    • The payment due date for Fall semester charges that will not be covered by financial aid is published by Student & Departmental Account Services. Typically, payment for the Fall is due in early August.
    • Earliest dates that Fall 2016 refunds from financial aid will be available:
      • Incoming JD students and incoming MSL students:
        August 15, 2016.
      • Continuing JD students, incoming transfer JD students, continuing MSL students, and all LL.M. students:
        August 29, 2016.

September 2016

October 2016

  • The 2017-18 FAFSA will become available.
    • File your aid application using 2015 tax information (prior-prior tax year). It is strongly recommended that you use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool to transfer your income information.
    • File online at FAFSA.gov.
    • Federal school code for Lewis & Clark: 003197.
    • Priority filing deadline: February 15, 2017.

November 2016

  • Billing statements for Spring semester charges are sent to students in mid-November. Check My Account Statement on WebAdvisor for the most current account information.

December 2016

January 2017

  • The earliest date that Spring 2017 refunds from financial aid will be available for all law students is the first day of classes: January 9, 2017.

February 2017

  • 2017-18 FAFSA priority filing deadline: February 15, 2017.

* Note: Students may process loans throughout the academic year, but meeting the deadlines included in the timeline above will ensure that your loans disburse to your student account at the earliest possible date. Unborrowed loan eligibility expires at the end of the Spring semester.
